Separation of church and state?
When Chick-Fil-A's president made a statement on homosexuality it really drew a line in the sand and brought to light a variety of important issues regarding 1st Amendment rights and religious freedom. The reaction from both sides of the debate was pretty astounding. This video is a timeline of the events surrounding the issue. When it comes right down to it, the real question we have to ask is, does the effort to make homosexual relationships on par with heterosexual relationships trump religious freedom or does religious freedom trump the effort to make homosexual relationships on par with heterosexual relationships. What does the Constitution say and as a Christian, what is the strongest argument for preserving marriage as defined as one man and one woman? "God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are of the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever"

Thomas Jefferson and most of the Founding Fathers of America believed that our country's greatness and prosperity was because we loved and respected God and his son, Jesus Christ. Their fear was that our country would continue to slide away from it's biblical foundations and lose all the blessings of God. In many ways their fears have been confirmed but many Christians are working hard to keep our 1st Ammendment right, the freedom of religion, safe and they are succeeding. This class helps students understand their role as Christians living as citizens in the United States of America. It helps them see WHY America is the greatest country on earth and how they can continue to be salt and light in America and the world. This is a list of the subjects covered in this class. Separation of Church and State: A Biblical view of Christians as US Citizens Lesson 1: As a country thinks, so it is. Every country has a worldview foundation. Lesson 2: Separation of Church and State How we got from Christian Pilgrims to the atheist ACLU. A history of the secularization of America. Lesson 3: Was America ever a Christian Nation? Yes. And it still can be if we are educated and do the right things. Lesson 4: Strict Constructionist versus Living Constitution Understanding the role judges and the constitution play in the freedom to share the Gospel Lesson 5: Freedom and Homosexuality Understanding what it means to legislate morality and why marriage should not be redefined to include homosexual marriage. Lesson 6: Freedom and the abortion issue. Roe v Wade and the history of abortion. The easy argument against abortion. Lesson 7: We are not Christian Activists. Understanding the difference between Democrats, Republicans and Christians Lesson 8: Public Schools, Private Schools, Home Schools, and Vouchers. Solving the problem of a lack of morals in school. Lesson 9: Are we a Christian nation or a pluralistic nation? How can you have a Christian Nation in a pluralistic society? Lesson 10: Now what? How to make a difference for Christ in your country. |
Educate for Life is a non-profit organization started by Kevin Conover which offers home school classes, on-line classes and seminar classes on Apologetics. These classes include subjects like Evolution, Creation, Intelligent Design, Atheism, Relativism, Islam, Buddhism, Mormonism, Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuality, abortion, Separation of Church and State, Biblical archaeology, boy/girl relationships and a few others. These classes can be taken for credit at some Christian schools.
